Mind Mapping the Ocean

Ideas for Use:
Preservice Education

"I show this video when I introduce Blueprints for a Collaborative Classroom, which is a required text in my Pedagogy course. Mind Mapping the Ocean demonstrates a teacher explicitly sharing the content and social objectives of a lesson with the children and going back at the end to lead the students in reflection on them. Student reflection on content and process is emphasized. The motivation to learn more about the ocean and discover answers to the student generated questions about the topic is evident. Student teachers appreciate viewing how the teacher sets her students up for successful interaction so that they can complete a joint product."

Comment from Joy Pelton, faculty member in the multiple subjects teacher credential program at the California State University, Sacramento.
