What Works in Character Education Database

The What Works in Character Education Database is a searchable tool that electronically represents the effort to uncover and synthesize existing scientific research on the effects of K-12 character education.  Users may search for character education programs in a variety of ways and combinations:  by specific strategy, by category, by grade level population or by level of effectiveness.   Each program description includes the number of scientific studies have been undertaken about it and the main findings.  This database, derived from a review of the research, is intended to support decision making by policy makers and for educators.

Character and the Common Core State Standards

The Common Core State Standards are a challenging set of content specific expectations and practice standards that increase rigor, relevance, and focus on acquisition of 21st century skills that students need for success in a global economy and world. We have endeavored to mine these statements about student competencies for the requisite virtues and character traits associated with excellence in mathematics.  By making these connections between excellences in mathematics and the character and dispositions that make the excellences possible, we provide new tools for mathematics instruction that is deep and engaging.
