The CCC is working as a consultant to Instituto Champrett in Sao Jose dos Campos / Sao Paulo State, Brazil.
Instituto Champrett staff members have been visiting the CCC in St. Louis for professional development including participating in the PRIMED Institute.
The organization’s goal is to spread character education throughout Brazil.

CCC experts, including staff, consultants and graduate students, have been frequent speakers in China at character education conferences.
The CCC has hosted students from China working toward their graduate degrees and faculty for sabbatical studies including Professor Gao Desheng of East-China Normal University in Shanghai.

CoSchool Institute
CCC is collaborating with CoSchool, in Bogota to test the impact of PRIMED training on eight schools in Colombia.
This project is funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation.

2021 Update
As part of the Templeton World Charity Foundation grant to CoSchool, CCC Co-Directors Melinda Bier and Marvin Berkowitz led a three-day workshop for the second cohort of schools in the project and a graduation day for the first cohort on March 15-19, 2021.
Teams from schools in both cohorts participated in the virtual workshops orchestrated by the CoSchool staff, who created a theme of a surfing adventure as the structure for the week of exploration and learning about PRIMED.
Special thanks to Rosalia Castro, Andrea Prieto, Andrea Rodriguez, Nicole Bruskewitz and Henry May (CoSchool Executive Director), for shepherding a remarkably successful training in a difficult COVID context.

The CCC has longstanding collaborations with Reitaku University in Kashiwa, Japan.
The focus is on training and research on character education and moralogy.
Reitaku University has translated and published You Can’t Teach Through a Rat by Marvin W Berkowitz, CCC Co-Director, into Japanese.

The CCC is working on two projects in Nairobi, Kenya.
The CCC is currently working with Peter Kingori, M.A., Director, Character Education Program at the Centre for Character and Leadership on a project to improve character education leadership training for Kenyan educators. This project is funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation.
The CCC has had a years-long relationship with Kenyan community activist, Arthur Oyange, providing consultation and education to promote character education across the country.
Mr. Oyange has attended the CCC PRIMED Institute in St. Louis, and is currently the Chairman and Director for the Coalition for Character Building & Community Development (Triple ‘C’ & D).

Panamerican University (Guadalajara, Mexico) in collaboration with the University of Navarra (Pamplona, Spain), the Center for Character and Citizenship (CCC) and the Secretariat of Education (Jalisco, Mexico) will develop, implement and assess a character education leadership program, CELMex, for Mexican public schools in Guadalajara city.

PRIMED Institute - Spanish Edition - Guadalajara, Mexico
Juan P. Dabdoub PhD facilitated the first Spanish language edition of the PRIMED Institute as part of the multi-year CELMex program for Mexican public school leaders.
CELMEX ENDS WITH FORUM
In March 2023, CCC Co-Directors Dr. Marvin Berkowitz and Dr. Mindy Bier each presented invited keynote addresses at the National Forum on Character Education 2023 at Universidad Panamericana in Guadalajara, Mexico. This Forum marked the successful end of the project “Character Education Leadership Project for Mexican Public Schools” (CELMex) funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation. The project was a tri-national collaboration of Universidad Panamericana (PI – Daniela Salgado), the UMSL Center for Character and Citizenship (Marvin Berkowitz, Mindy Bier), and the Universidad de Navarra in Spain (Juan Pablo Dabdoub, Aurora Bernal, Martin Martinez).

The CCC has provided consultation and professional development to Singaporean educators in collaboration with the Singapore Ministry of Education and the Singapore Principals Academy.
The Singapore Ministry of Education funded a two-year visit by See Moey Oh, to earn a Master’s in Education with a focus on Character and Citizenship. Ms. Oh returned to serve as a principal in Singapore.
The CCC has hosted numerous study groups to visit exemplary Schools of Character in the St. Louis Region, including an extended stay by Dr. Siva Thaiyalam, a Ministry of Education administrator.

The CCC is currently collaborating with the Citizenship and Character Research Group part of the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the University of Navarra to establish a Center of Character Education in Spain.
Previously, the CCC served as a consultant on a University of Navarra project to assess character education in Mexico, Argentina and Colombia, funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation.
The CCC has a longstanding relationship with the Group For Research in Moral Education at the University of Barcelona.
The CCC has hosted sabbatical visits by scholars from University of Barcelona, University of Navarra (Pamplona), and Centro Universitario Villanueva (Madrid).

HTC Foundation (Taiwan) – The Center for Character & Citizenship (CCC) has had an ongoing partnership with the HTC Foundation in Taiwan to both promote quality character education in Taiwan and to support the general work of the CCC.
HTC has made a 10-year commitment to the CCC, has funded a multi-year project to create a blended learning version of our Leadership Academy in Character Education; brought a team of Taiwanese principals to UMSL for training; and supports professional development for Taiwanese educators in Taiwan by Dr. Marvin W Berkowitz, CCC Co-Director.

The CCC has a long standing relationship with the Jubilee Centre for Character & Virtues at the University of Birmingham, England.
Numerous members of the CCC have been invited participants at conferences, consulted, provided written and video education materials.
Marvin W Berkowitz is currently an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Jubilee Centre.

Dr. Marvin Berkowitz and Dr. Amy Johnston gave a series of invited keynote lectures for the ‘Principals’ Roundtable’ at the UAE Moral Education Programme in Abu Dhabi, January 2019.
The programme was launched to promote “universal values”, including the culture of UAE.
Supported by the Crown Prince Court of Abu Dhabi, the event is one of the Education Affairs Office’s initiatives to increase engagement with school principals.
Visiting scholars
The Center has hosted many international scholars on sabbaticals and other study visits, ranging from one week to one year. The scholars participated in a variety of activities depending upon their interests and professional goals such as conducting research, observing CCC programs, using CCC resources and learning from our expert staff and consultants.
